Well, finally the weather in England may be about to change. It’s about time – I’m feeling decidedly lazy and more than a little heavy too!
Kilimanjaro in December is going to be a very tough challenge. I know I can get to the top – I was there last August, when I did my first challenge to raise money for Melanoma UK. I took some of my beautiful mother’s ashes to the top to scatter in her eternal memory.

The guys in Tanzania had been goading me to do it again. I finally agreed on one condition. I would climb Kilimanjaro in December to coincide with Tanzania Independence Day on December 9th. So on that day I will be on the very roof of Africa celebrating 63 years since the peak of Kilimanjaro was renamed Uhuru Peak – meaning freedom.

This time I will have some of Dad’s ashes with me to scatter with his beloved wife. They were inseparable and it’s only right and fitting that they should be together at this amazing place.

Obviously I will still be raising money for Melanoma UK, one of the charity organisations behind the campaign to raise awareness of skin cancer in the UK and also to educate people of the risks of increased exposure in the UK.
This walk took me to Cumbria. Wansfell to be precise. It was a hard push to the ridge but once there the undulations were more gentle. My quadriceps were absolutely killing me on the way up – the pain eased and the sun was shining.
At one point a thunderous roar shattered the tranquility of the surroundings. A RAF Typhoon came hurtling through the valleys gracefully banking round as it followed the terrain. What a sight!!

Here’s a short reel of the day which was finished in a beautiful coffee shop in Windermere – Homeground. Watch for the colour of those egg yolks!!
