The experience of being able to share my story on BBC Radio Lancashire with Nishma Hindocha was truly remarkable. It was a moment where my determination to have my voice heard was finally recognized, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have a platform to talk about my journey. I am thankful for the support and encouragement that I have received along my path, and I am committed to continuing to raise awareness and support others facing similar challenges.

The interview went really well and we discussed the common misconception that it’s “just” skin cancer. Skin is our largest living organ – it covers roughly 90% of our body. We need to look after it!!! Our skin plays a crucial role in protecting our body against harmful elements and serves as a barrier to prevent infections. It regulates body temperature, stores fat, and synthesizes vitamin D. It’s important to be mindful of taking care of our skin by staying hydrated, using sunscreen, and being aware of any changes or irregularities that may indicate underlying health concerns. Regular check-ups with a dermatologist can help in early detection and prevention of skin conditions. Let’s spread the awareness that our skin’s health is as important as any other organ in our body!
In discussing how to be more vigilant when taking care of ourselves in the sun, it’s crucial to emphasize the importance of sun protection and regular skin checks. ABCDE refers to asymmetry, border irregularity, color variation, diameter, and evolving characteristics of moles, which are key indicators to consider when monitoring for any changes that may indicate skin health concerns. Taking these measures can help us maintain awareness of our skin and overall well-being.

Taking advantage of the chance to showcase myself and strive for increased recognition is indeed an invaluable prospect. Whether it’s through speaking engagements, media appearances, or other platforms, seizing these opportunities can significantly contribute to one’s visibility and reputation. Embracing such moments has allowed me to demonstrate expertise, passion, and unique perspective, potentially yielding fruitful outcomes. This pivotal exposure sets the stage for garnering attention and paving the way for future endeavors.

After Kilimanjaro Nishma very kindly invited me back for a second chat. Great fun. Coincidentally it was the same day that Chris Evans announced his melanoma diagnosis to the world on Virgin Radio.
It was a truly exceptional experience to once again have the opportunity to engage in a conversation with Nishma following the Kilimanjaro event. The warmth and hospitality she extended were truly heartwarming, and I thoroughly enjoyed the enriching exchange. It is remarkable to reflect on the fact that our return coincided with the announcement of Chris Evans’ melanoma diagnosis on Virgin Radio. This convergence of events added an extra layer of significance to the day, making it even more profound and unforgettable.
