The climb to Lava Tower at 15,180 ft is a challenging yet rewarding part of the journey. As the trail winds through the plateau, the landscape changes once again, and the hardy vegetation of lichens and everlastings is a testament to the harsh conditions at this altitude. Despite the difficulty of the climb, the stunning views and the sense of accomplishment make it a memorable and fulfilling experience for trekkers. This stage of the ascent, with only 482ft between the altitudes of the campsites Shira Cave and Baranco, serves as a pivotal point in the trek, testing the endurance and determination of the climbers as they press onward towards their goal.

Then off we went again after trying to eat something and rest. Off to Barranco Camp. The route dropped steeply south to a stream, rises and falls a few times then drops steeply into Barranco Valley.

We were filled with a mixed sense of excitement and trepidation as we set off once more, our bodies weary but our spirits buoyed by the breathtaking beauty of the landscape. The air was crisp, carrying with it the scent of adventure and the promise of new experiences. As we trudged along the steep and rugged path, the sun cast its warm glow upon the rolling hills, infusing the surroundings with a golden radiance that seemed to imbue us with renewed energy.

Descending southward, the trail led us to a babbling stream, where we paused to drink in the serene beauty of the natural world around us. The gentle melody of the water mingled with the symphony of chirping birds, creating a peaceful backdrop against which our journey unfolded. With each rise and fall along the undulating terrain, we felt a profound connection to the earth beneath our feet, a profound sense of unity with the raw, unspoiled wilderness.

The path, at times challenging and formidable, demanded our utmost determination and resilience. Yet, with each step, we embraced the physical and mental exertion, recognizing it as an integral part of the transformative experience we had embarked upon. As the trail descended sharply into the embrace of Barranco Valley, we were enveloped by a sense of awe at the sheer grandeur of the natural amphitheater that lay before us.

In that moment, as we gazed upon the towering cliffs and verdant slopes, we were reminded of the indomitable power of nature and our own place within it. The journey to Barranco Camp had not only tested our endurance but also stirred within us a profound reverence for the untamed beauty of the world. And so, with each passing step, we pressed onward, eager to immerse ourselves further in the untold wonders that awaited us.

Absolutely beautiful part of the climb – but tough!
