Working under the sun causes 1-in-3 deaths from non-melanoma skin cancer, say WHO and ILO

Really interesting article from our friends in Europe that adds tangible insight into the very high risks to outdoor workers from the effects of UV radiation.

Employers with large numbers of outdoor workers in the UK should really consider what the recent impact of climate change is having on their workers.

There is already lots in place for health and safety regarding hard hats and high viz jackets. We need to me aware of the devastating impact of UV rays on our skin.

There is interesting work being done in the UK by a couple of skin cancer charities (Melanoma UK and Skcin) to try and help employers and HR functions understand what can be done.

There are also clothing companies such as Lifejacket Skin that make UV protection clothing that can help protect from the glare of the sun.
